The pipeline was supposed to go through Bolgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovenia. But so far, it seems that the project will be shelved.
Moscow has blamed the EU for opposing to the plan, which was funded by the Russian state gas giant Gazprom. Russian president Vladimir Putin said that continuing the construction of the project does not make any sense, as Bolgaria, being under the influence of Brussels, blocked it.

According to Klemen Grošelj of the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana, Russia's decision will have an impact on the gas prices, bringing severe consequences in the long run.
