Ljubljana - MMC RTV SLO

A longer period of dry and warmer weather has brought favourable conditions for break outs and spreading of fires in natural environment in a larger part of our country. Only on Saturday firemen recorded 26 meadow fires.

During the last days, the number of fire in natural environment increased due to spring cleaning of agricultural land, and burning of natural non-hazardous waste. The administration for protection and rescue reported that the number was large especially in the Gorenjska region, the broader area of Ljubljana, Celje and Postojna. It is expected that the situation will remain unchanged until the first abundant rainfall.

The Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief advises caution while using fire in natural environment, especially in activities which might start fire in nature. They also draw attention to the burning ban, which prohibits lighting fires and burning in natural environment.

The administration also draw attention to danger of fires in residential buildings. Four times the cause was insufficient maintenance of chimneys.
