Electronic devices sold in Slovenia will have to be in Slovene, according to a bill passed yesterday.
The National Assembly unanimously endorsed the bill which will make Slovenian-language operating systems mandatory.
Some tech giants, most notably Apple, do not include Slovene among the languages it offers on its devices.
The same applies to several major auto manufacturers that do not offer entertainment system menus in Slovene.
Companies based outside of Slovenia, notably streaming giants such as Netflix and Disney, will not be affected even though a lot of criticism in the public debate on the bill focused on the absence of Slovenian subtitles on these platforms.
The changes will take effect 18 months after the law enters into force.
