The motion of no confidence in the Janez Janša government failed.

40 MPs voted in favour in a secret ballot last night. 46 votes in favor were needed for the motion to succeed. There were seven against and six invalid ballots, whereas the majority of the coalition MPs did not vote.

The motion was filed by five centre-left opposition parties. They nominated Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) leader Karl Erjavec for prime minister. After the vote, Erjavec said DeSUS would remain in the opposition and he would now work on consolidating the party.

The partners in Janez Janša's coalition meanwhile emphasised that it was now time to continue working after needlessly expending energy on this motion.
