A piece of the moon is on display in Slovenia for the first time. A lunar rock can be seen at the Herman Potočnik Noordung Center in Vitanje.
It was handed over by the US Embassy in Slovenia and NASA. It will be on display from today until the end of the year. The embassy pointed to a long history of cooperation. Four NASA astronauts were of Slovenian descent, while Slovenian engineer Anton Mavretič participated in the Voyager 1 and 2 projects.
The rock was collected from the moon in 1972 and is estimated to be 3.75 billion years old, and thus older than virtually any rock on Earth.
