Most Slovenian urban municipalities decided years ago that they will no longer organise New Year's firework displays, citing concerns about the impact on the environment, people's health and animals' welfare, the STA reports.

The capital Ljubljana and Murska Sobota in the NE are the only exceptions.

Ljubljana officials say the fireworks will be made of degradable materials.

In case of fog, cloudiness or strong winds, the fireworks are said to feature sound effects and low-flying rockets.
