This marks the emperor’s formal ascencion to the throne in a ceremony that is centuries old.
Some 2,500 people from 170 countries are attending the event, including President Borut Pahor on behalf of Slovenia.
The previous emperor abdicated the throne, saying he was too old and weak to continue with his duties.
Pres. Pahor will also visit a research institute in Tokyo where Slovenian scientists are working on an antimatter project.
