Today is Reformation Day, a public holiday in Slovenia. It celebrates the first printed books in Slovenian language and remembers the religious, political and cultural movement in the 16th century which enabled their printing. The first books in Slovenian language, the Catechism and Abecedarium, were written in the year 1550 by a protestant priest called Primož Trubar.
The main ceremony was held yesterday evening in Ljubljana, while the main religious ceremony was held today in Moravske Toplice. Both events, the national ceremony and mass were held without any audience but were broadcast live on TV Slovenija. Slovenia has celebrated Reformation Day as a national holiday since 1992.
