We're observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today.

During the spring covid-19 lockdown, there was an 11% increase in domestic violence cases, police data show. According to NGOs, the number of helpline calls also increased.

However, the second wave of the epidemic has also brought a rise in cases of domestic violence against women.

Katja Zabukovec Kerin of the Center for Nonviolent Communication says that the number of reports filed does not match the actual number of cases, which they assume is much higher.

According to official data, domestic violence is present in one in five families.
