The EU Council and the EU Parliament finalized a new migration pact yesterday.
Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar said that under the deal, Slovenia will have to take in 126 migrants annually. Officials say the number is acceptable in terms of the country's capacities. If Slovenia rejects a migrant, it will have to pay EUR 22,000 per person. On the other hand, each country is eligible for EUR 10,000 a year in EU funds for each migrant it accepts.
The pact is seen as an important step in shaping EU's migration and asylum policy, and envisages the relocation of 30,000 persons a year across the EU.
