Slovenia will not have to pay back 10 million euros in EU funds used for Maribor’s airport. The airport built a new terminal in 2012. However, the airport has since been operational on a very low level. If it would cease operating, it would have to potentially return EU funds.
Maribor’s airport is the only other international airport in the country after Ljubljana’s.
The airport has been managed by the state-owned consulting and engineering company DRI since 2019.
The contract with DRI expires at the end of the year, and the airport's future remains uncertain.
