The Slovenian basketball team played against Australia for the bronze Olympic medal at the Seitama Super Arena in Tokyo. The final score was 107 to 93 for the Australians. The win was well deserved with the best player being Patty Mills with 42 points.
This is the first Olympic medal for Australia after they finished 4th – three times.
The Slovenian debut at the Olympics is another milestone in the success story of Slovenian Basketball.
After the game the head coach Aleksander Sekulič stated he is proud of the players, they have fought and gave it all during each game and played one for another.
The Slovenieian Olympic committee announced that Olympic gold medallist Janja Garnbert will be carrying the Slovenian flag at the closing ceremony.
Slovenia has won a record 3 gold medals in Tokyo. The last one was Garnbrets gold medal in women’s combined sport climbing
Altogether 54 athletes from Slovenia have taken part at the games.
