So far this year Slovenia's mountains have claimed the lives of 35 people. The voluntary Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia says the figure is higher compared to previous years, which may be a result of the increasing number of visitors in Slovenia's mountains. Last year the mountains claimed 29 lives, and around 630 accidents in which rescuers had to intervene.
The Mountain Rescue Association marks its 110th anniversary this year and has 847 volunteer rescuers.
