EU's foreign ministers have set out five conditions for future cooperation with the Taliban.
After a meeting at Slovenia's Brdo pri Kranju today, EU's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said any engagement with the Taliban would not mean their recognition, but would serve only to support the Afghan people. In order to engage with the Taliban the EU said Afghanistan must fulfil its commitments not to serve as a base for the export of terrorism, respect human rights - especially women's rights - the rule of law and media freedom, allow free access to humanitarian aid, and allow the departure of those who still wish to leave the country.
The announcement comes as the Taliban prepares to announce its government.
