In 1818 in Paris, the French composer Charles Gounod is born. In his works he endeavoured to have his own original ethnic expression. He wrote operas Faust and Romeo and Juliet, and many religious songs.

In 1882 the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky is born. In his early work he was influenced by Russian romance and expressionism, and at a later period he leaned towards the neoclassic.

In 1885, the French steamer with the Statue of Liberty, reached the New York port safely.

In 1897 the pioneer of hydrotherapy, a German Catholic priest and a natural healer Sebastian Kneipp dies. He wrote the books: My Healing with Water and You have to Live Like This.

In 1972, the Slovenian rower and Olympic gold medalist, Iztok Čop is born.

In 1980, the American tennis player Venus Williams is born.

MUSICAL HISTORY

1965 - Elvis Presley is at the top of the British music charts with the hit 'Crying In The Chapel'.

1971 - Carole King with his album ‘Tapestry’ takes the top spot on the albums chart in the USA. On the album are also: ‘It's Too Late’, ‘I Feel the Earth Move’, ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’ and ‘You've Got a Friend’.

1972 - Don McLean takes the No. 1 spot on the British singles chart with ‘Vincent.' The song was written sometime at the beginning of the 19th century about the artist, painter Vincent Van Gogh.

1979 - Anita Ward with her song 'Ring My Bell’ is No. 1 on the British singles chart.

1985 - The Crowd are No. 1 in the UK with a song 'You'll Never Walk Alone.'

2012 - Bruce Springsteen played his longest show when he turned in a three-hour-and-48-minute, 32-song, set at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.

Leta 1818 se je v Parizu rodil francoski skladatelj Charles Gounod. Napisal je operi Faust in Romeo in Julija.

Leta 1882 se je rodil ruski skladatelj Igor Stravinski.

Leta 1885 je v newyorško pristanišče prispel Kip svobode.

Leta 1897 je umrl začetnik hidroterapije, nemški duhovnik Sebastian Kneipp. Napisal je knjigi Moje zdravljenje z vodo in Tako morate živeti. Po njem se imenuje 'knajpanje'.

Leta 1972 se je rodil slovenski veslač Iztok Čop. V svoji karieri je med številnimi uspehi dobil tudi štiri olimpijske medalje.

Leta 1980 se je rodila ameriška teniška igralka Venus Williams.

Leta 1985 se je prvič oglasil takratni Radio MM2, danes Radio Si.
