The cleaning of the St. Jernej channel began yesterday. Over a dozen abandoned boats have been there for years. The channel is the main entry to the Sečovlje nature park near Portorož. A clean-up was first promised 15 years ago.
The enivornment ministry gave a deadline of December for people to remove their boats, vowing to charge owners who did not.
The boats will then be taken to Austria for disposal.
A total of 25 wrecked boats have been identified and the owners of some of them have been found.
