The main festivity took place the Brandenburg Gate and German president Frank Walter Steinmaier pointed out in his speech how we have built walls in our minds and we need to tear down these walls.

He further added we must work on remembrance and democracy and not allow people to be marginalised and attacked, we must not allow democracy to be mocked, or cohesion destroyed.

He further mentioned the United stated and its major role during the fall of the Berlin wall and he called on the US to remain a respectful partner and to abstain from all nationalisms.
