Slovenian President Borut Pahor will be joining several other world leaders tomorrow who will be attending a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz, Poland. Hundreds of former prisoners will also return tomorrow to the camp, where at least 1.1 million people – mostly Jews – were murdered, between 1940 and 1945. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of the Nazi death camps and was finally liberated on the 27th of January by Soviet troops. In 2005 this date was then chosen and proclaimed as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Joining Pahor at the ceremony in Poland will also be several Slovenian female former prisoners of the camp.
