THE KRAKOVSKI GOZD FOREST
Situated in the southeast of the country, the Krakovski gozd is the most extensive complex of low-lying floodplain oak forest in Slovenia. At the heart of this complex is an area of 100 acres featuring a protected primary forest reserve, which is home to numerous endangered plant and animal species.
KARST EXPLORER
The karst area is a special type of stony landscape that covers almost half of the Slovenian territory. The term karst derives from the limy plateau in the southwest of the country called Karst, as first studies of karst phenomena were performed there. Typical features of karst topography include underground caves with cave habitats. Slovenian underground fauna is considered to be amongst the richest in the world, making the country a true paradise for speleobiologists.
THE VELENJE PROMENADE
For the past two decades, the architectural studio Enota has been creating interesting architecture, which is earning awards at home and abroad. One of their recent awarded projects is the overall arrangement of the new promenade in the mining town of Velenje.
SCULPTOR AND DESIGNER JERNEJ MALI
Jernej Mali is a sculptor, restorer and designer. He produces practical household objects that are characterised by clean aestheticism and interesting designs. In the footsteps of Japanese and Scandinavian design, he works on the principle of little or no waste, so he uses up as much of the material as possible.
PHOTOGRAPHER LESJAK
Alpine rescuer and photographer Miljko Lesjak is an admirer of nature and mountains, particularly those above his native Soča Valley. It is no surprise therefore that natural beauty is what he attempts to capture with his camera, and gladly shares his photos with the rest of the world on the internet.
