EXHIBITION ABOUT POSTOJNA CAVE
Postojna Cave is one of the most famous Slovenian tourist attractions, and the most visited cave in the world. This year, we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the cave's inner areas. And just after one year later, it was visited by the very first tourists. The attractive features of this underground beauty and its history are also presented in a permanent exhibition in front of the cave.
MARINE BIOLOGIST TILEN GENOV
Tilen Genov, a marine biologist and the founder of the Morigenos Society, became interested in dolphins in his early childhood. Over the years, his initial enthusiasm evolved into a passion backed by scientific research. The Morigenos gathered many new insights into the life of dolphins in Slovenian waters, but they generated the highest interest on a global scale with their new method of identifying dolphins by facial recognition.
ROBOTICS AT THE JOŽEF STEFAN INSTITUTE
The field of robotics in Slovenia is developing very quickly and is above the European average. Researchers at the Department of Automation, Biocybernetics and Robotics at the Jožef Stefan Institute, the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, are participating in numerous European projects, including those in the fields of industrial robotics and medicine.
TOP ALPINE CLIMBER SILVO KARO
In the 1980s, Slovenian alpine climbers made it to the peak of world alpinism, thanks to their achievements in the most demanding mountain ranges in the world. Among them was now 57-year-old Silvo Karo. In his 40-year-long climbing career, he has pushed the boundaries of what is possible, and his collection of ascents is much admired even today.
THE CUISINE OF IDRIJA
Idrija is an old mining town situated in the narrow valley of the Idrijca River in the west of Slovenia. Over the centuries, a singular cuisine developed there, based on simple dishes from home-made ingredients. The most notable local delicacy is the Idrija žlikrofi, a dish made from potatoes, spices and dough. It has been protected at a European level, and bears the label traditional speciality guaranteed.
