Marta Polak's life was very interesting and full of historical changes. But she still has a remarkable sense of humour, she is vigorous and healthy. The only thing she needs is crutches to help her walk. She was born in 1910 and lived in the Parish of Ljubljana-Šentvid for many years. Her aunt worked as a housewife at her uncle's (brother's) place, who was the parish priest and dean. Following a long and plentiful life, seven years ago she moved into the elderly home in Preddvor.

Last summer Bishop Anton Jamnik visited a youth event in Preddvor. He was caught in a storm and found shelter under the roof of the elderly home in Preddvor. One thing led to another and the bishop met Marta Polak. She told him that the day before she watched the funeral of musician Slavko Avsenik, which was led by Bishop Jamnik himself. As a great fan of Avsenik's music, she made a wish to go on a pilgrimage to Brezje's Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, and then treat herself with a cup of diced fruit and ice cream (sadna kupa) and a cream cake (kremna rezina) at the Avsenik Inn before her 106th birthday.
