Although she devoted herself to makeup masks and daring head creations, her first love, music, still follows her. "For myself, for my soul, to calm me and take me somewhere else."

In mid-September Slovenian designer Ana Lazovski won a competition at the Vienna Hörbiger Culture Salon with her hat creations. She came out of the competition richer for a gold medal, a thousand euros and valuable new acquaintances. After winning she said: "To win here is a big compliment for all the years spent searching for the meaning of my work … to get the support of those who appreciate design and handwork is very important for me."

In her creations Ana brings together refined materials and daringly interweaves them into geometric shapes. And touching on the science behind doing makeup masks, she says: "If you want to be good you have to be a little bit of a sculptor, a painter, a medic, a psychologist… but above all an aesthete."

Answering the question how she is able to combine the work of a makeup artist and head cover designer she replies: "Up to now I've managed to combine the two quite well, although time does cause difficulties. Project schedules are always hectic and you can't be in two places at once … I'm still the only one behind all my work. I don't have any employees and I sew everything by hand which is often very tiring. The charm is that I do what I want to do. That's one of the main reasons why I've never given up."

And so how did it happen that after attending the Music and Ballet High School and studying musicology, she decided to devote herself to another branch of art? "The width of the science behind doing makeup masks won me over, as you have to be a little bit a sculptor, a painter, a medic, a psychologist… but absolutely above all an aesthete. Music will always follow me and I still play it. For myself, for my soul, to calm me and take me somewhere else," Ana says.
