It promises to give a boost to Bovec, especially for small planes and parachuting enthusiasts. Slovenian president Borut Pahor officially opened the airport, noting on the tenth anniversary of Slovenia’s membership in the European Union, that the airport had benefitted from EU funds as well.

The city of Bovec received 95 % of the necessary funding from Brussels and Ljubljana and is considered one of the most successful examples of EU-funded projects in the country.
