DARS say that after the New Year they will start installing crash barriers in the tunnels for greater safety.

Čufer has already pointed out the needlessness of pavements in tunnels, which act as a guillotine for tires and in the case of an accident can cause catastrophic consequences; he also deems inadmissible stronger lighting of SOS lay-bys.

As an example of good practice Čufer mentioned Austria, where in the SOS lay-bys on the Austrian side of the Karavanke tunnel safety protection has been installed.
