China to construct Belgrade-Budapest high-speed rail link
On Wednesday high officials from central and eastern Europe took part at a conference in the city of Suzhou, in western China. Following the conference the leaders from Europe, accompanied by China’s Premier Li Keqiang, took a high-speed train - one of the symbols of China’s fast growing economy - to the nearby city of Shanghai.
Prior to that representatives of China, Hungary and Serbia, signed an agreement on the modernization of the Belgrade-Budapest rail link. The new railway line is to be built in the next two years and trains will reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers an hour. Chinese media assess that China’s cooperation with central and eastern European countries has become one of the priorities of China’s foreign policy.

On Thursday morning Slovenia’s PM Miro Cerar visited the Beijing Foreign Studies University, where they also teach Slovenian. The university’s chancellor and management assess the work of the Slovene Studies course, part of the Department of Eastern and Southern European Studies, as very successful. There are currently 20 Chinese students studying Slovenian language.
