Dejan and Daniel have known each other for a decade. They came up with an idea of making a new form of a calendar in 2009. The joined their knowledge and powers, and started developing iOS apps under the name of "HedgeHog". Foto: Hedgehog
The circular calendar
The circular calendar titled "CircleTime" depicts time in the form of natural cycles which get repeated daily or yearly in a cyclical way. The app enables the user to move through the circular calendar representation of time through rotation. It shows saved events, enables editing them and adding new events, it is possible to time the hours spent on a particular task, set an alarm, access the event and birthday notifications on Facebook, look up the length of day and night and many more – all in a new way. Among the best Slovenian innovations awarded by the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, one can also find a circular calendar, an app for Apple mobile devices that strives to represent time in a very unique way.
Humankind has founded the measurement of time on the basis of certain natural cycles such as the rotation of the Earth around its own axis (the day), the revolution of the Moon around the Earth (the month) and the revolution of the Earth around the Sun (the year). Still, as some sort of a standard to depict time in a physical form, a “linear” calendar has been established, with days being represented by columns and weeks by rows.

Two young innovators from the Bela krajina region, 35-year-old Dejan Durini and 33-year-old Daniel Nunić, came up with an idea to represent days, weeks and months in a completely different way, at least in the digital world: in a cyclical form. Their idea materialized in the form of an app for Apple’s mobile devices iPhone and iPad, and has already sparked quite a lot of interest around the world. In Slovenia, the innovators have recently been awarded the golden award by the regional Chamber of Commerce for the Dolenjska and Bela krajina regions, and a bronze award of the national Chamber of Commerce for the most innovative companies and innovators in companies and public research institutes.

According to the innovators, the circular calendar, which can be purchased in Apple’s online store iTunes for $1.99 or $1.79, became a bestseller in the beginning and received top reviews. The app was listed as one of the top 10 most popular apps in the "Lifestyle" category, but after a few days, the sales dropped. What went wrong?

Given the nature of the product, the innovators do not intend to leave it like that. Shortly, they plan on starting a campaign on Kickstarter , which the innovators are hoping will give them a better chance of promoting the app. A long-term goal is to increase the recognition of the web site, so that anyone who types the keyword ‘calendar’ into a Web search engine will be able to find it among the search results.
