A beer and a burger are apparently a combination Slovenians can't resist, since many people decided to come to Ljubljana on Saturday to enjoy a delicious burger for their lunch, snack or dinner. Many foreign tourists also visited the stands, praising the event and wondering if this kind of gourmet pampering is something that can always be found in Ljubljana. It isn't, we tell them.
If the weather is nice, however, the Pogačar Square at the main marketplace turns into a meeting place for lovers of traditional Slovenian and international cuisine on Fridays, when colourful market stalls host selected Slovenian restaurants. The popular weekly event is called Odprta kuhna (the Open Kitchen Food market) and was invented by Lior Kochavy, an Israeli living in Ljubljana. He is also the creator of the Pivo (Beer) & Burger Fest, which spiced up the gourmet life of Ljubljana for the second time after its last year's first edition.
And the prices? Burgers cost between 2.5 and 6 euros, and a glass of beer was served for 2 or 3 euros on average.
