The American skier already won a strong lead in the morning run, and beat Veronika Velez Zuzulova from Slovakia by a second and 41 milliseconds in the final run. The bronze medal went to Šarka Strachova from the Czech Republic, who lost her initial 2nd place to Zuzulova.

Anna Fenninger, the leading skier in the combined World Cup, did not compete in slalom, allowing Maze, the second-best skier, to close the gap to 30 points by winning 15 points. The female World Cup is due to end with the final four races at Meribel next weekend.

Two more Slovenian skiers competed yesterday: Katarina Lavtar took 33th place, too slow for the final run with her result of +3,78, and Ana Bucik failed to finish the first run.

Maze's poor performance at Friday's giant slalom, where she lost her lead in the World Cup to Fenniger, Friday's winner, was influenced by health issues. Matjaž Turel, the team's doctor, confirmed that the skier has been struggling with digestive problems. "We are not completely sure yet what exactly these problems are, since I'm doing tele-treatment. From what I've gathered over the phone, she's either suffering from mild food poisoning or stomach flu. All symptoms point to this, so the only thing I could do for now was to prescribe the appropriate pills. The problems started on Friday, which is probably what caused the poor performance at GS. She really hasn't been feeling well, and the only thing she can do is wait for the problems to pass."
