This is a biblical story about two disciples - disappointed by the death of Christ - on their way to Emmaus, a little town eleven kilometres from Jerusalem. On their way the two meet a stranger. When the stranger breaks the bread they recognize him as the resurrected Jesus.

Due to this story the tradition of visits or walks to Emmaus developed. Easter Monday is also a day for trips and we find numerous local traditions throughout Slovenia. People exchanged presents during their visits such as blessed white bread, Easter eggs or oranges.

In many places Easter was celebrated the whole week. At the end of the fasting period it was time again for weddings; a tradition that is alive today.
