According to the Koper Police Administration, the shooter went to the hospital at 3 p.m. because he had an appointment with his urologist.

During his physical examination, the shooter shot the doctor with his gun, a 7.65 mm Crvena Zastava. The doctor tried to run away but fell. The shooter then fired at least one more shot at the doctor's head. One of the bullets went through a wall and into another room, where it ricocheted off another wall. Two persons were in that room at the time: a nurse and a patient.

Shooter goes to the emergency department
The shooter then proceeded to go to the hospital's emergency department. A police officer – who was at the hospital at the time because of a road accident that happened earlier – tried to get to the shooter. It appears that the shooter knew the police officer was approaching – probably because he heard people screaming. The shooter fired a shot at the policeman from a close distance. Even though the police officer received a bullet wound near his heart, he tried to pull his gun from his holster. Unfortunately, he collapsed and died.

The shooter ran out of bullets, so he picked up the dead policeman's gun and left the hospital. He sat down on a bench outside the hospital and fired at least one shot into the town of Izola.

He then tried to leave the scene in his car, but two police officers arrived at the hospital after receiving a call about the shooting. When one of the officers approached the shooter's car, the shooter shot him without any warning. The bullet hit the officer's armpit, but the police officer nonetheless managed to fire a few shots at the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the other officer also approached the shooter and fired at least four shots at his car. The shooting ended with the death of the perpetrator.

Perpetrator "was getting ready to die"
Police also said that the perpetrator was getting ready to die and that he had planned the murder in advance. The perpetrator had said on numerous occasions that he was dissatisfied with his doctor, blaming him for delays in his cancer treatment.

The perpetrator also told his friends that he was getting ready for his own funeral and that he wanted to be buried in an urn. However, they said they could not have predicted that he would go on a shooting spree.
