The owners' attitude towards workers, in Europe and in Slovenia as well, is becoming more and more brutal; they are considered only a cost. The economy exists because of people. We have the economic activity so that we can have a better life; the burden of economic activity should not be transferred to workers,"

The Social Democrats reject a discussion regarding minimum wage reduction as a means for decreasing manpower cost, said Igor Lukšič, the leader of the SD.

"The minimum wage is about understanding of decency and dignity connected with the quality of life of the people, it is a minimum criteria for minimum subsistence we would like to assert in this country, and it is not a financial category only," said Lukšič at the press conference, and reminded the audience that the minimum wage was introduced in 1995 at the initiative of Social Democrats, and in 2009 increased by almost one quarter.

The minimum wage is not an unnecessary expense, burdening the competitiveness of the economy, but it is a minimum which allows people to lead a decent life. Therefore, Lukšič welcomed the promise of the syndicates to organize protests in November. "The owners' attitude towards workers, in Europe and in Slovenia as well, is becoming more and more brutal; they are considered only a cost. The economy exists because of people. We have the economic activity so that we can have a better life; the burden of economic activity should not be transferred to workers," Lukšič continued.

Regarding harmonizing of the Act on Slovenian State Holding Lukšič said that in Slovenia we have been facing problems in managing the property for a long time already, as "we haven't yet established unwavering regulations which would remain stable regardless of the government changes." He mentioned the Act on The Capital Assets Management Agency which focused on the centralisation of management and staffing, and separated the latter from the government and the parties, began the process of centralisation, still unfinished as yet, as Pension Fund Management, hereinafter: KAD) and SOD Slovenian Compensation Company remained apart.

As he understands – and remains alone in his interpretation within the coalition – it concerns a part of the state management, and not an economic society according to The Companies Act. "As far as this is concerned, we remain alone within the political space, and a consensus will be difficult to reach, but we intend to delegate it," he announced, and added that they would put into deliberation a suggestion to create another independent financial pillar, to be controlled by pensioners and syndicates. This pillar should comprise, according to Lukšič’ suggestion, what is represented by Modra zavarovalnica Insurance and KAD, with the purpose of assuring additional stability, and it would be independent of the government and risky capital investments.
Igor Lukšič welcomed the announcement of Alenka Bratušek, Prime Minister, to apply for the president of Positive Slovenia. According to her previous statement that she would not stand as a candidate if Zoran Janković would, it seems an agreement was made after all. "We'll have the opportunity to find out the stability of her position within the party, and if it shows at the congress, it would be a small step towards fortifying the Slovenia stability as well."
Lukšič' comment on the criminal procedure against the president of the board Janko Medja was that it is on the supervisors to decide "whether he is still trustworthy or not." The fact that he was detained at all was, however, very unpleasant. It certainly causes the loss of credibility, but the decision must be made by the NLB supervisory board".
In reference to eventual dismissal of Gašpar Gašpar Mišič from the position of president Lukšič said that the procedures were running, as SOD gave a proposal for the call of the general meeting, and the following steps depend on the results of the meeting. "If the assembly does not relieve him, somebody else will be dismissed," predicts Lukšič: "We will propose the dismissal of the SOD supervisory board, and then it will dismiss the management. For those who still believe such staffing is acceptable, the criteria will be entered into the Act on Slovenia State Holding; some people don't know to behave, if it is only the matter of culture and conventions," added Lukšič.
