Miners from the Zasavje region have stepped up their protests today. The miners at the Trbovlje-Hrastnik (RTH) mine say they will remain in the mine until their demands are met.

They came to this decision once they found out that they would not receive the rest of their January pay and severance pay.

Infrastructure and spatial minister Samo Omerzel met the miners and the RTH strike committee ahead of the strike. But according to the strike committee head, Anton Lisac, agreement had not been reached. Lisac claimed that Omerzel failed to give concrete promises at today’s meeting. Omerzel then asked the miners to give the government more time to find a technical solution to the problem.
However, the miners' chief strike demand was met. Their January pay was said to be credited to their accounts in full. Despite this, around 70 miners plan to stay in the mine overnight.

The government plans to close down the mine, postponing the closure to 2018. Meanwhile, more than 100 people gathered in the town of Hrastnik, showing support to the miners who are on full-fledged strike.
