The Power Plant has released a statement on the issue. It said that in the past few months the workers had noticed a specific activity of radioactive particles in the coolant, but since the particles were far below the permitted levels, they decided to wait until the check-up. Now the review of fuel rods has shown damage.

The rods are apparently not sealed well enough. There could be several reasons for the poor fit of fuel rods, and now the Power Plant needs to find out how it happened.
