Wet stains on walls, cracked walls, even mildew on exhibition panels and exhibits: restoration of consequences from mould at the Maribor Synagogue is urgently needed.

One of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe, which is today used as an exhibition centre and performance area, is a monument of national importance. It is managed by the public institute, Center kulturne dediščine Sinagoga Maribor, Centre of cultural heritage Maribor Synagogue, with its headquarters in the building. "Dampness within the building has been a problem for quite some time, but to due lack of funds the restoration has been postponed year after year," the head of the institute Marjetka Bedrač explained.

But it will not be possible to wait much longer, as the problems caused by dampness are growing quickly, and are more serious than expected. "There are wet stains on walls, also cracked walls. Lately we have noticed mildew on exhibition panels, and on exhibits, and we believe restoration is sorely needed," she explained.

The restoration will include intervention on the walls of the basement, and the ground floor walls of the eastern part of the building, consisting of stabilization and injection. They will need approximately € 200,000 for the restoration, and they would like to obtain 46% of the funds through the public tender, while the remaining part would be covered from the municipal budget.
