The bill was first introduced on April 14th and it was under public consultation process until 5 May 2014. However, the bill's future fate was uncertain due the early parliamentary elections on 13 July 2014, which were announced because of the resignation of Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek.

Now, the bill's proposal is being consulted again. With it, the Labour Ministry aims to remove the distinction based on a person's sex orientation.

The new bill equals a partnership between two same-sex persons with a marriage, and a long-term relationship between same-sex persons will be set to be equaled to that of unmarried individuals.

If the new bill is passed, the same-sex partnerships will have the same legal rights as a partnership between a man and a woman.
