In 1896, Alfred Nobel, Swedish chemist and inventor, dies. The Nobel Prize is awarded for chemistry, physics, medicine, literature and peace. Each winner receives a unique Nobel diploma and a monetary prize. The awards were first presented in January 1901.
In 1903 Slovene sculptor, graphic artist, painter and illustrator Nikolaj Pirnat is born.
In 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopts and proclaims the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It has become a unique document about the human being, his rights and freedoms.
