Sava Nemanjić, whose translations of ecclesiastical literature into the Serbian language paved the way for development of the Serbian literary language, dies.
In 1865 in Klagenfurt the political newspaper Slovenec is first published. It was created by a group of young Slovenian intellectuals, led by Fran Levstik and Andrej Einspieler from the opposition Bleiweis. Due to problems with the authorities, who criticised the paper as being subversive, publication was stopped.
