Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, together with farmers began to fight for the independence of Mexico, which was then a Spanish colony. In addition to Costilla the revolt was headed by Jose Morales. The revolt ended in 1821 with the independence of Mexico. The date of the beginnings of resistance is celebrated in Mexico as Independence Day.
In 1849 part of the railway Vienna – Trieste from Celje to Ljubljana is opened. Ljubljana railway station at the same time becomes a major freight terminal. The first locomotives Ljubljana and Triglav arrive at Ljubljana railway station.
In 1857 the first type writer is patented.
In 1932 Scottish physician Sir Ronald Ross dies. Between 1881 and 1899 he devoted himself to the study of malaria in a Calcutta hospital. In 1897 he discovered the presence of the malaria virus in the Anopheles mosquito. He concluded that the disease is transmitted from diseased to healthy animals by mosquito bites.
In 1943 the supreme plenum the National Liberation Front issued a public proclamation on the annexing of Slovenian Istra to a free and united Slovenia within the frame of Yugoslavia.
In 2005 Gordon Gould, the inventor of the laser, dies.
