In 1947 in Maine writer Stephen King is born. He became one of the world's best selling modern authors. He is known for his thriller stories, many of which have also been made into films (Carrie, Green Mile, The Shining).

In 1949, with the merger of the American, British and French occupation zones the Federal Republic of Germany is formed.

In 1952 actor Bill Murray is born.
