In 1789 in the theatre in Ljubljana, Slovene playwright and historian Anton Linhart's Županova Micka (Micka, the Mayor's daughter) is staged for the first time.
In 1877 Julij Nardin, Slovenian physicist and inventor, who cooperated with the first Slovenian aviator Edward Rusjan, is born. Nardin also conducted his own aviation experiments. Nardin is considered a pioneer in the theory of aerodynamics and cybernetics in Slovenia.
In 1895 in Paris the first film performance is held. In the salon of the famous Café de Paris some 30 curious people gathered and watched the latest invention of the Lumière brothers. It was namely a short film entitled Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory. The film was screened in Slovenia one year later.
In 1908, a devastating earthquake destroyed Messina, the second largest city in Sicily. Earthquake with a power of 7.5 on the Richter scale was followed by a devastating after shock. More than 100,000 people died.
In 1937 French composer Maurice Ravel, who wrote Bolero, dies.
In 1954 American actor Denzel Washington is born. In 1989 he received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the film Glory, and then in 2001 for Best Actor in the film Day for Training.
