In 1785 Jacob Grimm, German writer, is born. He is known above all for his book 'Children's and Household Tales'. The book was published together with his brother Wilhelm.

In 1809 Louis Braille is born. He was the inventor of Braille, a system of reading and writing for the blind. At first the alphabet is represented by ten dots. With fifty different dots it possible to write every word and every punctuation mark. He also designed dots for numbers.

In 1872 Matija Jama, the greatest Slovenian impressionist, is born. He studied light and movement in nature. This can be seen in his works 'A view of Šenklavž' and 'Birch trees in a wood'.

In 1797 the first issue of Lublanski novice, the first Slovenian newspaper is printed. Between 1797 and 1800 it was published as a weekly newspaper. Ziga Zois gave the initiative, the editor was Valentin Vodnik. 100 copies of Lublanske novice were published weekly and there were 33 regular subscribers.

In 1905 the Swiss-American physicist and mathematician of German descent, Albert is born. He is best known for his celebrated mass-energy equivalence formula E = mc2.

In 1999 for the first time the new common European currency, the Euro, is presented to the public. On the 1.1.2002 the Euro replaces the national currencies in 12 Eurozone countries.
