There are only a few days, that remain in the collective memory of a particular country, especially when it comes to sports achievements.

Today is the first anniversary of that magical Istanbul evening. Only one year, however, after several crisis and difficulties of our basketball team, it seems as if everything happened a decade ago. This could also be seen in the qualifiers for the World Championship in which Slovenia played in seven matches and won only two of them. Right now, Slovenia is at the bottom of the group.
What went wrong?
It is no secret that the golden story started with Goran Dragić and Luka Dončić. However, coach Igor Kokoškov, his deliberate selection and his wish to bring out as much as he can from the captain, also adds to this story.
Due to the change of the competition system, and despite the title of the European Champions, Slovenia did not receive a direct ticket to the World Championship. These long qualifications did not take away only NBA players from the court, but also everything that happens off the court. Slovenia and basketball were both victims of a senseless dispute between organizations, which prevented many outstanding basketball players from participation in the qualifications.
Way to the top is hard and long, however, the fall is (obviously) quick and painful. We should focus on the future, though. EuroBasket 2012 is our new goal.
