Slovenia is at the end of the list of the share of older employees in the European Union.

The unemployment rate is lower in countries where the young enter the labor market earlier and get a job soon after doing so, while the elderly are employed for a longer time before retiring.

According to the director of the Institute for Economic Research Boris Majcen, the main reason for early retirement is dissatisfaction in the workplace; there is also the question of whether the conditions in the workplace are adapted for older employees.

A representative of the National Institute for Public Health Mojca Gabrijelčič Blenkuš claimed that abroad, employees are more engaged. She says they have mentoring schemes where older employees teach their younger colleagues and that the labor market is more flexible - for example, older employees only work for four hours a day.
