The Infrastructure Ministry explained the second railroad track Divača-Koper is technically possible to build by mid-2021. The operating permit, however, is obtainable until mid-2022.

The Environment Agency issued a partial environmental approval for the project of construction of the second railroad track Divača-Koper in the middle of last month. For now, the area at the Slovenian-Italian border in the valley of the stream Glinščica presents itself as the most problematic for obtaining the environmental consent and, consequentially, a building permit. The case is beeing talked over with the hrpeljsko-kozinska municipality. 99.41% of the needed land has already been acquired and the state has so far spent more than 40 million euros on this project.

The Ministry is confident that the second railroad track is technically possible to build by mid-2021 if the project is co-financed by the Cohesion Funds from the next financial perspective.
