The International Red Cross Day is celebrated every year as the birthday anniversary of the founder of the Red Cross, Henry Dunant. According to Renata Bruskole, General Secretary, the funds raised during the Red Cross Week will be used for execution of humanitarian programmes for socially disadvantaged groups of inhabitants. Last year the organisation raised EUR 415,483, which were spent on week projects, and for the activities of 56 regional associations of Red Cross Slovenia.
The Red Cross Week started today in Gradac in Bela krajina, which hosts a museum collection of the Slovenia's oldest humanitarian organisation, and will close with the tenth testing of primary school teams first-aid skills at the coastal Debeli rtič Youth Health and Summer Resort.
During this week three million of special postage stamps will be on sale at the post offices, and 25,000 of surcharge bus and railway tickets at the price of 17 cents at bus and railway stations. The all-Slovenian humanitarian action "It is nice to share" will continue during the Red Cross Week.
