says a notification on the Restaurant Week (Teden restavracij) website as the organizers prepare for the upcoming autumn 2015 edition of the event.

The semi-annual Slovenian Restaurant Week has returned for its third year. The first “restaurant week” event was held in New York but quickly spread all over the world.

In Slovenia, every new edition seems to surpass the previous one in popularity. The spring 2015 edition attracted 34,000 foodies. Several restaurants have been booked in advance for the autumn edition.

The first “victims” are those gourmets who wanted to taste the handiwork of Tomaž Kavčič, the chef who works at the Zemono Manor House (Gostilna pri Lojzetu). Other restaurants have also reported that their phones have been ringing off the hook.

The (extended) Restaurant Week Autumn runs from October 16 to October 25. A total of 87 restaurants are taking part this time around – 13 more than in the spring. They have been shortlisted for the event based on the reviews of Uroš Mencinger, a restaurant critic. He and his wife Violeta organized the inaugural Restaurant Week in Slovenia as part of the 2012 European Capital of Culture initiative. Most high-profile restaurants and inns in Slovenia take part in the event. Only a few restaurants seem to be missing, most notably Hiša Franko, Skaručna and Čompa.

Prix fixe menus for €15
Most people are probably familiar with the concept, but here is a brief recap: The event sees chefs serve three-course meals that will set you back only 15 euros. At JB, Pavus or Zemon, a starter alone will run you 15 euros. The organizers told the participating restaurants that they should focus on Slovenian cuisine. The food should be sourced locally, and the restaurants should serve Slovenian wines.

To book your reservation, contact the restaurants directly. The list is available on: www.tedenrestavracij.si The restaurants started taking reservations on September 27.
