The opening of the consulate, which will be headed by Nevenka Golc Clarke, was attended by a great number of deputies from Queensland's parliament. Among them Peter Wellington, the Speaker of Parliament, Mark Ryan, a representative of the PM of the state of Queensland, as well as many members of the Slovene community.
Working holidays open doors for the young
Apart from the opening of the new consulate, an important step in the relations between the two countries was the signing of the agreement on work and holidays. It was signed by Minister Žmavc and Senator Michaelia Cash, Australia’s Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection. Once the accord takes effect, it will enable a limited number of young people from both countries to acquire special one-year residency visas for Australia and Slovenia.
