The agricultural sector lacks fresh blood. Thus, many farms are lagging behind in terms of development. To reverse this trend, the government is offering a total of 12 million euros in incentives to young farmers.

Applicants must meet a number of criteria
Applicants must complete the necessary forms and submit them from August 24 to September 18. They need to meet a number of conditions: they have to be 18 to 40 years old, they need to have the right education, and they need to buy or take over their first farm. People who will find a job on a farm are also entitled to a one-off grant of up to 45,000 euros.

Only farmers who have owned a farm for less than 18 months can apply for the grants. Jože Očko (Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry) says that there are even more strings attached. Applicants have to buy or take over a farm with at least six hectares of tillable land. Hence, farmers in mountainous areas will have a hard time meeting these criteria.
