Today we mark the official end of winter as the spring equinox occurred 32 minutes past 6 PM.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Astronomical Geophysical Observatory Golovec and also the spring equinox the organizers have unveiled a commemorative plaque in honor of the observatory founder Fran Domink. The event will be accompanied by an evening of open doors and also a tour through the observatory. Astronomers will show the observatory, equipment and astronomical library to spectators and demonstrate the operation of the 25-inch telescope Vega. In the case of clear weather astronomical observations with several telescopes will also be possible.

An equinox occurs when the plane of Earth's equator passes the center of the Sun. This happens twice a year, at around the 20th of March and the 23rd of September.
