The intervention act defines that regardless of the provisions of other acts and collective contracts the highest holiday bonus that can be paid should not exceed the minimal wage should be valid in the year following the year in which the economic growth exceeds 2.5% of the gross domestic product. Therefore the Unions believe that this year the companies should pay holiday bonuses in compliance with the collective contracts, and not limit it to the amount of the minimal wage.
Legal opinions regarding whether the time for the higher holiday bonuses will be this, or next year differ. "In case the interpretation of the act is really desired, the Ministry of Finance should address the National Assembly, the only competent authority for the explanation," claims Zdenko Lorber, president of the Trade Union Confederation Alternativa.
